Aptiv was recognized by Automotive News as a 2019 PACE Award winner for its Automated Driving Satellite Compute Platform, marking it the 21st time Aptiv has earned this honor. Aptiv leads the industry for the most PACE Awards. For 25 years, the PACE Awards have recognized suppliers for their game-changing product and process innovations.
The Aptiv Automated Driving Satellite Compute Platform team was recognized with the 2019 Automotive News PACE Award.
Aptiv’s Automated Driving Satellite Compute Platform.
Game changing? The answer is yes.
The market for advanced driver assistance systems or ADAS has been rapidly expanding and revealing new opportunities to optimize vehicle architecture. While typical vehicle architectures have a distributed intelligence through multiple electronic control units, Aptiv’s Automated Driving Satellite Compute Platform is taking as much processing and electronics out of individual sensors as possible and centralizing, making them smaller, more cost efficient, lighter and easier to package in a vehicle.
From basic ADAS to Level 4 autonomous vehicles, this compute platform is scalable for increasing automated driving levels and complexity demands. The concept has had a revolutionary impact on Aptiv’s customer’s vehicle architecture.
Aptiv is democratizing active safety through the efficient and scalable Automated Driving Satellite Compute Platform. Most systems have the computing power integrated into the sensors, processing the information at the source, which makes each sensor expensive to build and to replace when damaged. Aptiv’s Automated Driving Satellite Compute Platform takes processing and electronics out of individual sensors, instead sending the information to the central platform, allowing the sensors to be smaller, more cost efficient, lighter and easier to package in a vehicle. The reduced mass and volume also eliminates sensor heat dissipation concerns. In one application Aptiv’s innovative technology reduced the camera footprint from the size of a deck of playing cards to the size of a pack of chewing gum.
Aptiv’s systems integration along with excellent collaboration with Audi to incorporate several different players into a single, affordable ECU controlling the advanced safety features is what resulted in the perfect platform of market-disruptive technology.
